January 2017 update
Published: 17th Jan
As you maybe aware The Danny is now at Sandon Dock for winter maintenance and training to be completed.
We will try and keep you updated on what we are doing as much as possible, here is a brief update from one of our volunteer engineers Andy Dobbs.
"Whilst in Sandon we need to carry out some essential maintenance in preparation for the coming sailing season....
Part of this is warranty work by Cammell Lairds. The boiler is coal fired, the environment can be full of steam, and the engines are 103 years old, so the work we need to do includes preparing the boiler for an insurance survey, retiming the main engines to improve their operation and efficiency and rebushing the control linkages from the control levers to the steam valves. We also have to test various areas to make sure that nuts and bolts (some of which are quite difficult to get at) have not worked loose, and clean up areas that have become dirty or rusty. "
