Volunteer Recruitment Day - March 23

The Danny Volunteer Recruitment Day Wednesday March 23rd 11:00-13:00
The Daniel Adamson is a coal fired steam tug tender, built in Birkenhead and launched in 1903 from the golden age of British engineering, and had a career ranging from towing humble barges to entertaining Royalty on the famous Manchester Ship Canal, in her iconic 1936 installed Aro Deco saloons.
After a working life of over 80 years, she was eventually abandoned and destined for the scrap yard. At the 11th hour in 2004 she was rescued by a dedicated group of volunteers and after many trials and tribulations (including a £3.8m Heritage Lottery grant) in 2015 was returned to her former working glory, sailing the waterways of the Northwest for the enjoyment of all.
Now based mainly on the beautiful River Weaver, at our berth at Sutton Weaver Swing Bridge from April to October, the restored vessel offers a whole range of activities and has become a well-known attraction and community asset, not only in the Northwest of England, but welcoming visitors from all parts of the UK and even abroad.
Our calendar for 2022 is packed with a program of public sailings to Acton Bridge, Anderton and Ellesmere Port including themed cruises, and static openings for guided tours, education, and community events, corporate hirings and fundraising initiatives. Let's not of course forget the never-ending task of maintaining a 119 year old ship in line with 2022 maritime regulation and the behind-the-scenes admin and management roles which make it all come together.
The Danny has a small management team, supported by a group of volunteers whose dedication and affection for her enable us to provide a fantastic experience for all our visitors, just look at our reviews on Trip Advisor and the social media.
To help us continue with our journey and preserve the historic vessel for future generations we are looking for more volunteers to join our team in all departments. Engineering, stewarding , deck crew, shore parties, passenger liaison, education support, catering, fundraising, and admin are all areas waiting to wecome new volunteers. Training is given in all roles, but of course any skills that can be brought from individual experience will be gratefully utilised.
What will you get from volunteering with the Danny?

We are holding a recruitment event at Sutton Weaver Parish Hall on Wednesday 23rd March from 11:00 -13:00 when there will be a short presentation on the history of the Danny, volunteering roles available and a chance to meet members of the departments in person to learn about life with the Danny family.
