Wirral Poetry Festival in conjunction with the Daniel Adamson Preservation Society invite you to spend the day on the Daniel Adamson a unique 1903 Steam Ship, listed as 15th on the Register of National Historic Ships.

The Danny, as the ship is affectionately known, includes stunning Art Deco saloons which have been restored to exactly as they would have been in 1936, complete with, curved bar, wooden panelling rumoured to have come from the Oceanic fleet of ships and original tables and chairs which are evocative of a past time of shipping and celebration.

The day will start at 11:00 am with introductions followed by a tour of the ship.  There will be time to write with (non-compulsory) prompts to get the creative juices flowing. The Wirral Poetry Festival Team led by Kemal Houghton will provide help and guidance to those who need it. You will get a chance to explore the bank along this interesting stretch of the River Weaver and then share your poems and thoughts. This is a rare opportunity to delve into the northwest’s maritime history aboard a unique vessel.  Tea and coffee will be available but don’t forget to bring along your packed lunch. This event is open to all ages and abilities.  Whether you are a published poet or never written anything before, you will be welcome on this picnic.

The Danny will be moored at Sutton Weaver Swing Bridge, the nearest postcode is WA7 3GF which is on the A56 just off Junction 12 of the M56.  Follow the signs for Frodsham.  When you turn right onto the swing bridge the Danny will be clearly visible.  If you are coming by train “Frodsham” is the nearest station.  It is a 30-minute walk from there to the swing bridge.  We encourage people to car-share where the can.  Please complete the “Travel” questionnaire when booking if you need help to get from Wirral or Frodsham Station to Sutton Weaver.
